3D Papercraft: Dog -Chihuahua
The Chihuahua is thought to be a descendant of a breed of dog called the Techichi. The Techichi was the dominant breed in the 9th century in the area that is now Mexico. The Techichi was a pet of the Toltec people. The Techichi was not only a pet to the Toltecs and the Aztecs, but also was important for religious reasons. It was believed that if Techichi were creamated with the dead, the Techichi would take on the burden of the deceased person’s sins and turn away the anger of the gods. Further, it was believed that the Techichi would protect the souls of the dead from evil spirits, and lead them to their final destination in the afterlife.
.The Chihuahua of today is thought to be a cross between descendants of the Techichi and a hairless dog called the Chinese Crested Dog.
There are two types of coat found in Chihuahuas - the Long Coat variety has long hair, while the Smooth Coat variety has short hair. The hair of the Long Coat is sometimes curly.
This Papercraft model is of a Smooth Coat Chihuahua. The finished Papercraft model will be about half the size of a real Chihuahua.

3D Papercraft: Dog -Shiba
The Shiba is a dog that is native to Japan. It is thought that the Shiba came to Japan with the peoples who migrated to Japan from the south in the Jomon Period (about 8000 B.C. to 200 B.C.).The shiba lived primarily in the mountainous regions near the Sea of Japan, and served as hunting dog for small game.
However, the shiba was bred with the many varieties of foreign dogs which were brought to Japan from1868 through 1912, and the number of purebred Japanese Shiba declined drastically. The danger of the purebred Shiba’s extinction was felt, and starting in 1928, a variety of activities were carried out to preserve the purebred Shiba. In 1936, the Shiba was designated a natural monument by the Japanese government. The Shiba we know today is a result of these protective activities.
The Shiba is classified as a small dog, but it is known for being very muscular. According to one theory, the name Shiba comes from an ancient word meaning small. Shiba are very loyal to their masters, and are easy dogs to keep. However, Shiba are also very cautious
and have sharp senses. Shiba don’t bark much, and have a distinctive and unusual bark.
This Papercraft model is a 1/3 scale model of a real Shiba.

3D Papercraft: Dog - Dachshund
In medieval Europe, in the areas surrounding present-day Germany, there are records of a breed of dog called the Teckel that was bred for hunting purposes. The Teckel, with its long torso and short legs, is considered to be the ancestor of today’s Dachshund. With meaning badger and meaning dog, the name Dachshund comes from what the breeds were originally developed for, which was to chase badgers and foxes down into their burrows.
While today’ s Dachshunds are considered loveable domestic dogs everywhere, they used to be treated as hunting dogs in Germany, the country of origin. The classification of Dachshund breeds traces back to these hunting days.
They are grouped according to the circumference of their chest to match the burrow size they can fit into, with the largest being the Standard (over 35 cm), followed by the Miniature (under 35 cm), and the smallest being the Kanichen (under 30 cm).
They are also classified into three coat types: Smooth-haired, Long-haired, and Wire-haired.

Dachshunds have friendly, lively qualities. They are loyal to their masters, patient, calm and when there is a visitor they will let their masters know by barking. Cleverness and an intelligent-looking facial expression also add to the appeal of the Dachshund.
This Papercraft is a model of the standard-sizesmooth-haired Dachshund, the most orthodox type, and is approximately half the size of a real Dachshund.

3D Papercraft: Dog - Labrador Retriever (Black)
The Labrador Retriever is named after its original role as a ‘retrieving’ gun dog and the Labrador peninsula in Canada.
Some say that the ancestors of the breed were dogs who crossed over the Atlantic from Europe to Canada on fishing boats sometime in the 16th century and were eventually brought back to Britain sometime in the 19th century.

Originally rather fierce, the breed was improved to make it obedient and easy to train.
The Labrador has an otter-like tail and loves to swim and play in the water. They are loved by many as guide dogs for the blind, care dogs and rescue dogs and are also extremely popular as pets.

This Papercraft Labrador Retriever is about half the size of the real dog.

Beagle

Saturday 12 April 2008 @ 5:18 pm

3D Papercraft: Dog - Beagle
The beagle is the smallest of all hounds, a type of dog used extensively for rabbit hunting in 15th century England. Rabbit hunting does not involve horses, and as the hunters moved on foot they needed a dog that could accompany them easily. Beagles are small enough to be carried around
in bags, so they were of great use to hunters.
Beagles are descendants of British hounds such as the blood hound, and have sturdy bodies despite their small size.
Unlike other hunting dogs, they are usually used in packs, and are a breed of dog accustomed to being raised in groups.
Beagles have a docile, patient, friendly temperament, making them perfect playmates for children too.

This Papercraft Beagle is about one third the size of the real dog.
